MARGARET FEUERSTEIN NICKLES FROM BERG

Posted on Ancestry Message Boards>Surnames>Firestone on 18 June 2005
Classification: Query

My 4xgr. grandmother was Margaret Feuerstein (b abt. 1780) from Berg, Alsace. She married Peter Nickles, son of Peter and Anna Maria Nonnemacher Nickles. I am trying to identify Margaret's parents. Her husband, Peter, did stay and serve for Napolean....they didn't get to western PA until abt. 1840, following their four children; George Hans, Margaret, Jacob and Charles. All eventually settled in Butler County.

(Signed:) L. N.

Webmaster's Notes
The families of Margaret and her husband had lived in the Berg and Thal Parish for generations.  If Margaret's estimated birth year of 1780 is close, then the best candidate was born on 16 July 1781 and her parents were Johannes and Catarina Elisabeta.  Only one other candidate was born in the Berg parish between 1770 and 1790.  The first two lines are the layout for their baptismal records that follow:
Newborn,   Date of Birth,   Date of Baptism,
                Father,     Village,     Mother
1) Margreta Elisabeta, 16 Jul 1781, 19 Jul 1781,
Johannes* Feuerstein, Berg, Catarina Elisabeta (born Klein)
2) Margreta Dorothea, 8 Aug 1785, 10 Aug 1785,
Nickel** Feuerstein, Junior, Thal, Eva (born Birckel).
----------------
  * Fourth of that name. The great-grandson of the first Johannes Feuerstein.
**This Nickel Feuerstein was a great-nephew of our immigrant ancestor.
